Sifting divides biochar into two fractions
Sifted biochar below 2 or 6 mm:
- Mixes easily into the feed
- Ensures precise dosing
- Suitable for calf milk (< 2 mm)
- Difficult to pass through pipes and aggregates
- Dusts a lot
Sifted biochar over 2 or 6 mm:
- Comes in chunks up to 3 cm
- Suitable for feeding pigs of all ages
- Easy to mix for home blenders
- Can be combined with sieved biochar
- Slides easily and unhindered in pipes and fittings
- Very limited dust generation
How much biochar do I need?
In general, the following is recommended:
- For piglets (approx. 7-30 kg):
10-20ml (2-4g) biochar per pig per day. - For larger pigs (30+ kg):
20-40ml (4-8g) biochar per pig per day. - For sows and gilts:
50ml (10g) biochar per pig per day
Biochar can also be adjusted as needed, e.g. for diarrhea challenges or as a supplement in environmental enrichment.
Start with a low dose and adjust gradually so the pigs get used to it.
Biochar with climate credit
By choosing OBIO Biochar with climate credit, you actively reduce CO2 emissions – 1 ton of biochar binds 3.1 tons of CO2 through pyrolysis.
With or without climate credit, you get a natural feed supplement that enhances pigs’ well-being and promotes sustainable production.
Make a difference for the climate and your bottom line!
