Camphylobacter excretion in feces is significantly reduced when 2% biochar is added to poultry feed in free-range poultry. In the study, it was administered with a 2% admixture and it is possible that the maximum admixture percentage should be 1%, as there was reduced absorption of feed when 2% was administered (we have seen something similar in weaned pigs).

The study confirms that the addition of biochar improves the microbiome of the poultry and, all other things being equal, it will increase the certainty that Camphylobacter levels will be reduced. The study does not look at feed utilization. This needs to be tested at the earliest opportunity!
