Biochar for calves: Less diarrhea and a shinier coat
A Norwegian study conducted in collaboration with Vilomix in 9 Norwegian calf herds showed that calves had less diarrhea, a shinier coat and performed better during the first few months. The calves’ blood levels of both vitamins and minerals were also tested, and there was no difference. 6 of the 9 herds continue to use biochar after the end of the trial period.
Feed calves 12-16 grams of biochar per day per calf mixed in the milk throughout the period when there is a risk of intestinal dysfunction. NB! Avoid giving biochar to calves when they ingest colostrum and when they receive medication in the feed/milk.
OBIO specially produces filtered biochar, with particle size below 0.5 mm, which is mixed into the milk and administered throughout the period when calves are exposed to diarrhea (typically the first 2-4 weeks).
In the picture you can see 10 liters of filtered OBIO biochar < 0.5 mm particle size. Mix into all milk at 12-16 grams per calf (approx. 50 ml) per day.
